Loraclear (Loratadine)
Information
You should not take this medication if you are allergic to loratadine or to desloratadine (Clarinex). Before taking loratadine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have liver or kidney disease.Do not give this medication to a child younger than 6 years old without the advice of a doctor. Loratadine disintegrating tablets (Claritin Reditab) may contain phenylalanine. Talk to your doctor before using this form of loratadine if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).
Warnings and Precautions
If you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
Possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.
This medication should only be used as instructed and prescribed by your physician or pharmacist. Do not alter your dosage unless specifically instructed to do so by either of the above.
Dosage and usage often depends on the severity of the condition, as well as the patient’s medical history and current health condition.
Before you begin using this medication, ensure your physician is aware of the following:
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you have any allergies.
- If you have any other illnesses, disorders, or medical conditions.
- If you are using any other drugs or medication.
- If you are using any vitamins or supplements.
Uses
Loraclear (Loratadine) is a type of antihistamine used to treat symptoms of hay fever, such as watery eyes, sneezing, itching, and runny nose. It may also be used to relieve itching which is caused by hives. This medication works by reducing the effects of the natural chemical histamine.
While You Are Using
If you miss a dose and remember in less than 12 hours, take it straight away then continue as normal. Otherwise, skip that day's dose but be sure to take the next dose when it is due. Do not try to make up for missed doses by taking more than one dose at a time.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Things to be careful of:
Tell all doctors, dentists and pharmacists who are treating you that you are taking Loraclear.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you become pregnant while you are taking Loraclear.
Do not give Loraclear to anyone else, even if his or her symptoms seem similar to yours.
Do not take this medicine after the expiry date
Do not use it to treat any other complaints unless your doctor or pharmacist says so.
Stop taking Loraclear 48 hours before you have any skin tests as antihistamines may interfere with the results of skin tests.
Dosage:
Adults & Children over 12 years: One tablet daily
Children 2-12 years over 30kg: One tablet daily
Children 2-12 years under 30kg: Half a tablet daily
Side effects
Some minor side effects have been reported by patients taking Loraclear (Loratadine) such as:
- Drowsiness
- Blurred vision
- Redness of the eyes
- Nosebleeds
- Headaches
Although it is rare, there are other more serious side effects associated with this drug. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience seizures, fast heart beat, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
